Parent Visa
Are you looking to bring your parents over to Australia? If so, the Parent visa could be the appropriate visa for Australian citizens, Australian permanent residents or eligible New Zealand citizens who wish to sponsor their parents to enter and remain in Australia.
If your personal circumstances and financial situation allows it, you may want to consider the contributory parent option, which sadly has a processing time of six years.
An Assurance of Support (AOS) will also be required to be paid. However, please note that the Home Affairs charges for the contributory parent option can be quite substantial; see below, especially when both parents are applying for the visa.
Unfortunately, the processing time for the non-contributory parent option is 30 years, which in reality is not practical.
Therefore, depending on your circumstances, we may be able to help you with the Visitor visa for travel periods of 3 years, 18 months or 12 months instead of the standard 3 months for Visitor visas.
Basic Eligibility
Firstly, the sponsor must:
- be an Australian citizen
- be an Australian permanent resident
- be an eligible New Zealand citizen
The sponsor will also need to be settled in Australia.
Secondly, the applicant must satisfy the Balance of Family Test, namely:
- at least half of applicant’s children live permanently in Australia
- that more of the applicant’s children live permanently in Australia than in any other country
