Before 1 July 2016, there were many types of Student visas. This changed on 1 July 2016, when Student visas were simplified and merged into one Student visa (subclass 500).
The Student visa is for overseas people who wish to come to Australia and study on a full-time basis at a registered education institution. Holders of the Student visa can work up to 40 hours per fortnight and work unlimited hours during scheduled course breaks.
For the Student visa, among other things the student must meet the following requirements:
- English level requirements
- Genuine Entrant requirements
- Financial Capacity requirements
