Parent Visas

Are you looking to bring your parents over to Australia? If so, the Parent visa is the appropriate visa for Australian citizens, Australian permanent residents or eligible New Zealand citizens who want to sponsor their parents to enter and remain in Australia.

The main Parent visas are:

Unfortunately, the processing time for the Non-Contributory Parent visa is 30 years, which in reality is not practical.

However, if your personal circumstances and financial situation allows it, you may want to consider the Contributory Parent visa, which has a processing time of four (4) years. An Assurance of Support (AOS) will also be required to be paid. Please note that the Immigration charges for the Contributory Parent visa can be quite substantial; see below, especially when both parents are sponsored.

Visitor Visa (Parents)

The 30 year waiting period for the Non-Contributory Parent visa may not be an option and the substantial visa charges associated with the Contributory Parent visa may not be possible. Also, Balance of Family Test (see below) may not be satisfied. Does that mean parents cannot visit their family members in Australia? Absolutely No.

Depending on your circumstances, we may be able to help you with the Visitor visa (Parents) for travel periods of 3 years, 18 months or 12 months instead of the standard 3 months for Visitor visas.

Parent Visa – Visa Requirements

The sponsor will need to settled in Australia and be one of the following:

  • an Australian citizen
  • an Australian permanent resident
  • an eligible New Zealand citizen

The applicant must satisfy the Balance of Family Test, namely:

    • at least half of applicant’s children live permanently in Australia
    • that more of the applicant’s children live permanently in Australia than in any other country
